Commissioned by ICSU's Advisory Committee on Genetic Experimentation and Biotechnology (ACOGEB) to analyse the present status of the applications of biotechnology to agriculture, the emerging scientific trends, and their contributions and consequences for human health, biodiversity and other components of the environment.  The overview paper Biotechnology and Sustainable Agricultural Development (ICSU Report No. 6), one of the ICSU Series on Science and Sustainable Development, was prepared for the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg in August 2002.  It is available as hard copy and in PDF format on the ICSU web site. Connect to ICSU website to view
ICSU Series on Science for Sustainable Development. This publication is also available on the ICSU Subweb New Genetics, Food & Agriculture, which is also mirrored on this site.

ICSU Report New Genetics, Food and Agriculture: Scientific Discoveries-Societal Dilemmas
which analyses the key findings of some fifty reviews on GM foods and crops that have been conducted by various national, international and private agencies within the past three years. Particular attention is being given to identifying the areas of commonality amongst the reviews, identifying any areas of differing perspective, and highlighting those areas where there are gaps in knowledge that may be able to be addressed through additional well targeted research. The report was released on June 10 in Paris. The Full Report and Executive Summary are available as PDF files from the ICSU/Doyle Foundation Subweb which can be accessed from the ICSU site (
www.icsu.org) or directly from this site.
